The Gospel for the Second Sunday of Lent is that of the Transfiguration of the Lord, from the Gospel according to St. Mark, Chapter 9, verses 2-10. Pope St. Leo the Great who lived in the middle of the 5th Century wrote a homily on this Gospel that we read during the Office of Matins on this Sunday. His words enlighten us as to why Jesus may have taken the three disciples up the mountain to see Him in his transfigured glory and how this experience may have strengthened them and thus the whole Church, that we may not be “scandalized by the Cross”.

Mother Dolores Hart reads the Gospel of the Transfiguration as a meditation this Lenten Season.
